These teams last met back in round 5 with the Roos coming away with a hard fought 19 point win in a game played in atrocious conditions. Tom Rudolph was the difference in this encounter booting 5 goals from the midfield in a best on ground performance and the spotlight will again be on Rudolph today as well as the mouth watering match up of Iles Vs Rudolph.
Both Iles and Rudolph should know each other’s games very well after playing alongside each other in last weekend’s Stockman’s game Vs Cairns. The midfield duos were the only players representing the Downs in this game where the Stockman’s team had a comfortable win 144 – 76. Both Iles and Rudolph booted 1 goal each for the Country side but both players will have to put friendship aside this weekend as they go head to head in a very important game for their respective teams.
The Redbacks have found form over the past month with 3 wins from their last 4 games including a season defining victory over last year’s premiers the Tigers to the tune of 43 points. The Wright, Donges combination worked beautifully for Warwick in this game as the pair combined for 8 goals.
The Roos have also found form after a sluggish start to the season and have bounced back superbly to be tied for second place on the ladder with 28 competition points. While Rudolph has been in super form this season the forward combination of Grice, Copland and Gribble have been a real threat and will need to be watched closely.
A very important game for the Redbacks as they look to keep touch with the top 4 and a win for Coolaroo keeps them in the hunt for a top 2 finish and the double chance come finals.
In another important game in terms of finals contenders the University Cougars host the Highfields Lions. Highfields currently sit in 4th place and are hanging onto their first ever seniors finals appearance with both Warwick and University snapping at their heels. This is a must win game for the Cougars if they want to play finals football this year. In other games the South Toowoomba Bombers are on the road to the home of the Goondiwindi Hawks at Riddles Oval while Dalby host the Lockyer Valley and Tigers have the bye
