IT was an old fashion shoot out, as Highfields and Dalby played out an all time classic blockbuster at Kratzke Oval. Only one behind was scored for the game as the Lions ran out 9.1 (55) to 7.0 (42) victors.
Highfields were out of the blocks early as they piled on 5 opening quarter goals to the Swans 2. In the inclement weather, it was amazing how straight both sides were kicking. The story continued in the second term as both sides increased their goal kicking tally and Highfields took a 24point lead into the major break.
Adams, Davies and Collison stood out as the consistent contributors for Highfields, while Easton, Melbin and Town were getting a lot of footy for the red and white.
In a low scoring third term, Highfields kicked the only behind of the game while the Swans cut the lead back to 19points with their major late in the term. Again Adams, Davies and Collison stood out but were supported well by Grundon, Sheath and R. Cherry for Highfields.
Going into the last quarter with a 19point lead, Highfields were confident of victory but two quick goals to Dalby in the opening minutes saw the Lions kick it up a gear. Highfields went to a man on man style of footy and were able to stretch the lead back out to 13points when the final siren went.
Tom Clark and Ryan Cherry booted 3 each, while Nathan Cherry chipped in with 2 and Josh Adams was best on ground for Highfields capped off his performance with a major. Lachlan Town was the only multiple goal kicker with two for the Swans.
