THE under18 Crows continued their dominance of the SEQ Central competition by defeating the Jimboomba Redbacks by 52points at Glenlogan Park in atrocious conditions.
Jimboomba got smashed with torrential rain overnight and the ground was turned from country footy oval into a mud pit. The Crows gained momentum right from the get go, booting 5 goals to 1 in the opening term. Skipper Lochie Dignan was on fire, as was first gamer Sam Cooper and young gun Corey Bellert. Darling Downs went into the minor break, with a handy 24point lead.
Jimboomba were able to kick the first goal of the second quarter and gain some momentum. The Crows were smashed in centre clearances but were able to gain control through Dignan, Thomas, Walters, Cooper and Bellert. Again the Downs were able to take a handy lead into the major break, leading by 33points.
As players fatigued and the football hard to kick more than 25metre, goals were worth gold. The Crows were the only side to score for the term, kicking a major to extend the lead out to 39points. Senior player Thomas Wainwright led the way for the Crows laying at least 6tackles for the term, along with a number of pressure acts. Dignan was again superb along with Thomas, Walters and Cooper.
With every player now running around in ankle deep mud, the Crows set in and kept driving forward. DD were able to keep the Redbacks scoreless in the second half and were able to extend the final margin out to 52points. Walters, Dignan and Bellert were the stand outs. Charlie Nolan, Sam Flannery, Jarron Miller and Nathan Boschman were excellent off the half back and provided a lot of drive for the tiring Crows.
Darling Downs were able to run out 11.4 (70) to 2.6 (18), DD now sit atop the SEQ u18 Central ladder at the half-way point of the season, they now have a weekend off over the long weekend and will face Jimboomba at Rockville on June 17th.
