We have seen in the past week or so two allegedly awful incidents where players and possibly spectators have become involved in fighting.
I share with you all the embarrassment this causes the Football fraternity. In many leagues across Australia our game is played every week in the right spirit and issues that have been reported this last week are the last thing on players and spectators minds. However all that needs to happen is for one player or spectator to do something silly to cause an issue that could bring rise to a much larger involvement and quickly it becomes out of control and carnage occurs at the time and for weeks, months and in some cases forever after.
We are involved in a highly emotional game and you all want the 4 points each week. I applaud our clubs and its players and coaches as to the way in which you go about your business each week on field, but let’s not ever forget our responsibilities.
It will be interesting to watch the outcome of the two investigations from last weekend in these leagues. I will personally be very interested in the sanctions and whether they would in any way reflect the way in which our member clubs expect the SFL to deal with such matters.
Let’s not ever forget our responsibilities.
Good luck this weekend.
