Centenary’s win was made even sweeter as they had to do it the hard way by beating the top of the table and undefeated OLOSCC at their home school ground. Mike Hetherington was very proud of his student’s performance labelling the win as the best he had seen in his 8 year reign as Centenary head coach.
“The players finally showed commitment to this game and have been rewarded for doing so” said Hetherington. The win was set up on the back off a strong opening quarter where the heights booted 3 goals to Dalby’s 1.
From that point on Centenary were able to maintain their lead throughout the game but were given a scare as Dalby staged a late fight back on the back of competition leading goal kicker Lachlan Dignan who was moved to Full Forward half way through the last quarter. But time ran out for Southern Cross who eventually went down by 4 points to a deserving Centenary Heights team who put their head over the ball for the entire match and as a result benefit from a healthy free kick advantage.
Centenary wingman Daniel Verrall was outstanding for the Hawks and dominated possession for his side throughout the match and was the deserving winner of the man of the match grand final medal. Centenary on baller Tasman Myles was named MVP for the 2012 competition after polling 6 votes throughout the regular season while OLOSCC captain Lachlan Dignan was named leading goal kicker with his 8 goals through 3 games played.
