Stingers rise to the occasion

IN the game that did not have much hype as the top of the table blockbuster was going ahead at Baker Street between University and Dalby, it was Highfields and Easts who played out a thriller at Kratzke.

Highfields were out of the blocks early kicking three goals to Easts one in the opening term, as the Lions held a slender 13point lead. Davies, Ernst and Hall were on fire for the Lions, as the Stingers brigade of Amon, Saffron and Rattray had plenty of their own footy as well.

The Lions were unable to convert their inside 50's into goals, as Highfields were only able to record four behinds for the second quarter. Stingers were on fire in front of the big sticks, as they piled on three quick goals and took a narrow 1point lead into the main break.

Amon, Saffron and Rattray all had fantastic first halves as did Wilson, Donoghue and Barnsley for the Stingers. Head, Lucas and Jericevich stood the tallest for the Stingers and supported trio Davies, Ernst and Hall for the first half.

Highfields dominated possession in the third quarter but again had the jitters in front of goal and were only able to record four behinds again. The Lions were able to take the lead into the final change as the Stingers struggled for inside 50's only recording one behind.

Lachlan Davies of Highfields booted the first goal and in a low scoring game and the Lions looked to have the game won. Easts lifted and were able to kick the final two goals of the game and record a memorable 4point victory away from home. Easts 6.2 (38) defeated Highfields 4.10 (24).
