The Under14's kicked off proceedings with a thrilling 5point victory over undefeated side Sherwood Magpies. In beautiful conditions, the Crows kept Sherwood goal less in the second half and were able to record a 5.6 (36) to 4.7 (31) victory.
Sprason, Shelton and first gamer Rissman were the stand outs in the win. The Crows got off to a sluggish start but were able to regain stability through key 1%er's and in particular smashed Sherwood with contested possessions. Darling Downs ability to get to the footy first and feed out to their runners proved the difference.
Stand in coach for the day Scott Matthews was thrilled with the victory and said it was a major confidence boost for the young side and massive step forward.
"We worked hard and our ability to win the contested footy is what stood out most, massive confidence booster", Matthews said after the game on Sunday afternoon.
The 18's Crows have been able to keep their unbeaten start to the 2012 season in tact after demolishing UQ Bulldogs by 81points, at Rockville on Sunday afternoon.
In a game the Crow's wanted to send a statement to the rest of the competition, that they are no longer the whipping boys anymore, DD ran out 14.16 (100) to 3.1 (19) victors. Stahlhut, Dignan and Huggins led the way for the Crows, as small forward Adam Green booted 3majors along with Centre Half Forward Lachie Thomas.
Darling Downs stuck to their structures and executed their game plan set in place and outplayed the Bulldogs in every facet of the contest. Coach Jeff Neumann was pleased with the games result but stated that their was still room for improvement.
"A massive win for the group and keeps our good start to the campaign intact, we still have plenty of room for improvement which is the pleasing factor," Neumann said after the victory at Rockville Oval on Sunday.
Both the Under 14's and 18s are on the road this week, as the 14s travel to Sunclinc Oval to take on Wilston Grange and the Under18s will be travelling to Jimboomba to take on the Redbacks.
