WARWICK Redbacks star midfielder Brendan Iles is no stranger to success.
The 25-year-old has been a standout in the AFL Darling Downs competition for years, winning the past three Holman medals for the best and fairest.
Now Iles will finally get the chance to test himself at the next level of country football after he was named in the Queensland Stockmen squad for the first time.
Iles was the only Darling Downs player selected in the 36-man training squad.
"It's something I really wanted to achieve this year," he said.
"I've been playing solid football (but) it's only the squad so fingers crossed. I've got to work hard over the next couple of weeks.
"Hopefully I've done enough to get me into the team."
There was little more Iles could have done to impress selectors after a best-on-ground performance in the one-off representative match against Northern Rivers earlier this month.
But the modest Iles credited the team's success for his elevation into the Stockmen squad.
"The players around me looked after me," he said.
"You can only play as good as the team plays. It was a great team performance at Ballina.
"I had a good ruckman and group of on-ballers. I was lucky enough to be selected."
The Stockmen will hit the road to face Cairns in the Queensland Country Championship on June 10.
