COMPETING against a player two and a half times his size doesn't faze Kevin Globio while he plays his first D-league basketball game in Queensland.

Globio has played basketball seriously in Warwick since moving from the Philippines six years ago.

At 64kg and 165cm, he is the smallest player in the Warwick Wildcats team.

On Saturday, he came up against West Logan player Salasopo Tulua, who weighs in at 160kg and is 197cm tall.

"Kevin played really well," Tulua said.

"He is a little fellow so is much quicker and can run around me.

"D-league is a great opportunity for him and his team to move forward. The basketball fan base in Warwick is really good."

Tulua, who has played Queensland Basketball League games with two clubs, celebrated his 35th birthday on Saturday with an 83-54 victory against Warwick.

Globio is not fazed by the big guys.

"It is all about skills. Height and size don't matter," Globio said.

"I can definitely beat Salasopo with speed but his long arms are an advantage."

Reflecting on his first D-league game, Globio said the big players from West Logan were more agile than he expected.

"Some have played professionally," he said.

"The game was a lot faster than I expected. I just want to play better and better in D-league."

While Tulua is the heaviest player he has faced, there are plenty of taller players in basketball, up to 213cm.

Globio is excited about the rest of the D-league season.

"I am not keen on any losses so I want to play my hardest," he said.

With West Logan coach Geoff MacLeod pinpointing fitness as one of his team's advantages on Saturday, Globio is doing his bit in the fitness stakes.

"I go to the gym in between work commitments," he said.
