The Under 16 competition has for the past few years been filled with byes and a couple of big results. The stronger clubs train week in, week out to play against the other contenders. Coolaroo is lucky enough to have had 2 of their rivals back to back. Last week they were able to run over the top of the previously undefeated Dalby by 4 goals before this weekend’s game against University.
Both teams ooze class all over the field. At one end of the ground Harry Marshall has been kicking goals from everywhere. Scott Baker was overseas last week and will be a welcome inclusion to their forward line notching up 14 goals in just 4 games. Corey Bellert, fresh off the Under 16 trials was superb again last week and will look to use his skills from the middle to send the ball long and deep.
University has the talls and smalls which provide a great mix and some exciting footy. The height of Luke Murphy and Connor Pyke gives the Cougars plenty of goals, provided they kick straight. Sam Cooper will likely have a big ask to rebound a lot of footy from half-back but like Bellert, has stepped up since playing with the Western Taipans.
Expect a tough but high scoring game. Both midfields move the ball quickly out of the contest and have a number of players who hit the contest with fantastic intensity. The game will be won by whichever team can execute their skills from the open space. When the ball goes wide at Baker St you can find yourself in some space and it is vital to execute the basics of our game to perfection.
