This weekend’s match of the round sees the undefeated Bombers face off against the ever-improving Lions at Harristown Park.
Souths had the week off last Saturday as they postponed their top of the table clash against the Tigers, however 8 of their players lined up for the victorious Demons side. Nick Jones was fantastic in the match, picking up the Bill Shaw Medal and will look to carry his versatility into this match.
On the other side of the fence Highfields ran a masterclass against Goondiwindi last Saturday. With just 14 players on the field per side, the extra space allowed Ben Stackelberg and Zac Chimes to both hit double figures on the scoreboard. This will not be the case this week as the Lions are forced to share their den with 18 other blokes keen to get their teeth on some leather.
Clinton Watts has been superb so far this year for the Lions and will look to give his midfielders first use of the footy. When it hits the deck though is where Souths will likely gain the upper hand with Bradon Behan, the Newman’s & Trent Saxelby all in fantastic form.
Highfields are still to play the two undefeated teams before the halfway point of the season and a win today will be vital as they look to break into this season’s late August action.
In other games University host Coolaroo in both the A Grade & Reserves in what is a crucial match for both teams. A loss to University could see a 2 game break between the top 4, while a win would likely see them level at the turn. Warwick travels down to Goondiwindi in a match which they must win for similar reasons while the Tigers host Dalby who will be keen to show the competition they can continue to match it with the top teams.
