Frankston will be desperate to get its season back on track on Sunday when the Werribee Tigers come to visit Frankston Oval, as Adem Saricaoglu previews the game.
The Dolphins are one of four clubs with just one win so far this season, but with a percentage of 68.26, it sits last on the ladder.
Coach Simon Goosey said his side needs to be more efficient in front of goal, something that was lacking from last week’s 36-point loss to Box Hill.
“The importance of scoreboard pressure gives you momentum throughout the game,” Goosey said.
“It’s vital for our young guys to make the most of their opportunities and build momentum.”
Goosey is also expecting Werribee to bring its best form to Frankston Oval on Sunday.
“I’m expecting a pretty tough game because (Werribee) have shown good form at times this year,” he said.
“Our pressure and our ability to win the ball out of the middle will be vital to winning the game.”
Werribee was able to square its ledger to 3-3 last week after going to Coburg and defeating them by 51 points in the wet.
The Tigers were impressive and have shown good form in the past three weeks despite narrowly going down to Williamstown in round six.
Coach Scott West said the seventh-placed Tigers again focused on recovery this week in preparation for the Dolphins.
“As usual a big part of the week is to make sure the players recover from the game, especially last week because it was wet, we want them to be fresh and ready to go,” West said.
West ensured the Tigers won’t be taking Frankston lightly despite current ladder positions.
“One thing about the VFL is that most teams are even regardless of ladder position,” he said.
“No matter who you’re playing you’ve got to prepare consistently whether it’s Frankston or Port Melbourne.”
Frankston Oval is notorious for providing parochial support for the home team, but that isn’t something West is worried about.
“They’re just some things you’ve got to deal with and I’m sure it would be no different to what other teams get when they come to Avalon (Airport Oval),” he said.
Werribee will have plenty to play for with captain Robbie Castello set to break the clubs games record, this week lining up for his 138th match.
The first bounce will at 2pm on Sunday.
