The Southern Football League wishes to advise that Round 4 is 'Umpire Appreciation Round', a national initiative which encourages everyone to have a positive impact on match day at all levels of football to assist with recruiting and retaining umpires.
In Round 4, the SFL is proudly supporting the 'Umpiring is Everyone's Business' campaign throughout all matches.
The SFL requests all clubs be involved in the Round 4 celebrations, and some suggestions are:
Display the corflute poster sign prominently.
Captains to ensure they shake the hands of umpires after the game.
Coaches to ensure they shake the hands of umpires before and after the game.
Ground announcements introducing the umpires and the fact it is Umpire Appreciation Round.
‘Silent theme’ whereby crowds are encouraged not to abuse umpires/players etc. (note: this should occur every round)
Post-match presentations in the home club's rooms recognising the match-day umpires .
