Any athlete, in any sport dreams of representing their sport at STATE level, just once. Former Toowoomba East Stinger junior Isabella Baldock has lived that dream not once but twice in 2012.
In February Isabella Baldock was selected in the Under18 Queensland Youth Girls squad, which is an amazing feat in itself for the 16year old. Baldock is due to fly out to the 2012 Under18 Youth Girls National Championships in Adelaide during May.
Over the weekend, Baldock along with Jess Harvey, Danielle Wall and Molly O'Connell represented the Darling Downs in the Presidents team which competed at the Under16 Australian Rules School Girl State Championships at Yeronga AFC in Brisbane. The Presidents team is made up of girls from school regions that were unable to field teams in the competition. The three DD girls joined 20 other girls from Met East (Brisbane East) and South Coast (Gold Coast) during the championships.
Baldock was a stand out in the Presidents side which finished fourth on percentage. Isabella was joined by 2 other Presidents team mates in the u16 Queensland merit side.
This is not only a fantastic result for AFL in general for the Darling Downs but is a massive boost for female AFL across the region also.
"Hopefully with Isabella's selection, in the QLD merit side this will drum up more interest from local schoolgirls so that Darling Downs School Sport can enter a side in the State Champs for 2012," AFL Queensland Development Officer Jeff Neumann said after Baldocks selection.
"We are also looking for any teachers that maybe interested in coaching the DD side in 2013 and can call myself for further details on 46322994".
