Country footy and netball clubs play an important role in keeping regional and country communities fit and healthy.
Now, local sponsors can do their bit too by signing up for free WorkHealth Checks in their workplace for their staff, and getting in the running to tip a bit more into their local footy club.
WorkHealth checks only take around 15 minutes each, are free and completely confidential.
During the check, you’ll have your waist circumference, cholesterol, blood pressure and blood glucose measured by a trained health professional. You’ll receive your results on the spot, including your risk for developing type 2 diabetes and heart disease (two life-threatening, yet preventable illnesses), as well as tips and advice for improving your health.
“The fact is many people don’t really know if they’re at risk of developing these conditions, and it’s easy to think you’re healthier than you really are,” said WorkHealth Director, Rachel Gualano.
“From the 500,000 workers across Victoria who have already had a WorkHealth check, we know that around one in four are at serious risk of developing type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular disease. The good news is that, by having had a WorkHealth check, they can now do something about it.
“So, ask your boss to sign up to get a WorkHealth check at your business, and support your local footy team,” said Ms Gualano.
By signing up to these sessions you will give your VCFL footy club a chance to win a $15,000 voucher to put towards footy equipment at the club.
That would be a big kicker for any country club, and another great way to show your support for the boys and girls in your club colours.
All nominated clubs will go into the draw to win a $5000 voucher plus the amazing experience of a training session with the Western Bulldogs.
All you have to do is book in a WorkHealth check for your local business and nominate your club on the paperwork - the club that gets the most nominations wins.
So, rally around your footy club, and rally around your workers with a WorkHealth check this footy season.

As our partnership slogan with WorkSafe says, the most important reason for workplace safety is not at work at all. Staying healthy, safe and well during the working week means you can be where you are now – at the ground, in the huddle and around the boundary supporting your local footy and netball team.
