Toowoomba Tigers continue to push their claims for a third-straight AFL Darling Downs premiership after handing University an 86-point drubbing at Baker Street Oval on Saturday.
The defending premiers totally outclassed the under-strength Cougars 19.11 (125) to 5.9 (39). Uni tried to cover is losses by experimenting with players in positions they weren't regularly familiar with. And their lack of experience showed as Toowoomba took control of the game from the outset.
The Cougars only made things harder for themselves in the second term by missing on kickable goals the Tigers broke away to a 37point lead at halftime.
It all went the Tigers way after the long break with a seven-goal last quarter blowing out the final margin. Josh Andrews was a thorn in Uni's side all day and snared a game high seven goals for Toowoomba.
Meanwhile, Coolaroo coach Nick Barker, can breathe easier after his side pummelled Highfields 19.16 (130) to 6.14 (50). The pre-season champions had failed to live up to expectations, losing their last two matches against top-ranked sides. But the Roos bounced back into form against the previously unbeaten Lions with strong games from Lee Gribble and Darren Copland.
Warwick is also back in the winners circle after defeating the competition whipping boys Lockyer Valley 14.9 (93) to 1.2 (8). Clinton McErvale led the way for the Redbacks with five goals. And Dalby recorded its first win of the year with a huge 23.14 (152) to 13.9 (87) victory over Goondiwindi.
