BASKETBALL VICTORIA AWARDS DINNER WINNERS
On Tuesday the 17th of April, Basketball Victoria celebrated yet another fantastic year of the tireless work and efforts throughout 2011 of our players, officials, volunteers and Associations at the Basketball Victoria Annual Awards Dinner.
With 250 people in attendance for the evening, we joined together from across the state to commemorate the achievements of our Administrators, Volunteers, Players, Coaches, Officials and Media in Basketball in Victoria.
This year, Dandenong Rangers player Jenna O’Hea was awarded the Betty Watson Medal for the 2011 Female Player of the Year. The Allan Hughes Medal for the Male Player of the Year was awarded to Matthew Dellavedova.
The Dandenong Basketball Association took out the award for Association of the Year, which is presented to the Association that has had an outstanding year in membership development, venue development, efficiency and championship results, whilst the Most Improved Junior Program this year went to the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association.
Once again, awards were given in the area of Inclusion. The Wheelchair Basketball Athlete of the Year was awarded to Dandenong Rangers player Jannik Blair, whilst the Athlete of the Year with an Intellectual Disability was awarded to Eltham’s Michael Patterson. Bob Tyler from the Dandenong Basketball Association was awarded the Volunteer of the Year for Players with a Disability. Doncaster Basketball Association was awarded the Inclusive Basketball Association of the Year. This award recognises the contribution an Association has made towards the provision of diverse and inclusive programs and practices for participants with a disability and those from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Among other awards, basketball representatives from around the state were awarded for their years of continued service to the sport for achievements of over 15, 25 and 35 years.
