LYVNA Fires at Ariels Tournament

LYVNA 15U-1 Premiers

LYVNA had nine Rep teams attend the Ariels Tournament at HE Parker Reserve Heathmont on Sunday 18th April.

It was the first time in a number of years we have attended the Ariels tournament and we all were keen for a strong showing.  We were not disappointed.  We ended up with one Premier, two Runners Up and one Semi-finalist out of the six teams eligible to play finals (there were no finals for the 11U sections).

Gibbo's 11U-1 started the year strongly to end up 2nd in the 11U-Open section, only losing to the top side by one goal. Gibbo was very happy with their performance and is looking forward to a strong year.

Kerri's 11U-2 team had a bit of an up and down day and ended up middle of the field in the Reserve section.  The girls showed signs of their best but also had lapses during the day.  There is plenty of promise and they will improve under Kerri's coaching.

Rebekah's 11U-3 performed very well all day but unfortunately couldn't pull off a win, ending up with two draws.  They were competitive in every game and could have easily won a handful of games on the day.

Karly's 13U-1 finished second after the rounds in a strong 13U-Open section.  Unfortunately they got beaten in the first Semi-final to end their day.

Mel's 13U-2 ended on top of their Reserve 1 section with some very strong performances.  They continued their form to win the Semi-final but couldn't continue into the Grand final, eventually going down by 4.

David's 13U-3 (coached by Clare Grimes on the day) were one of the standout performers on the day.  They were undefeated during the rounds in their Reserve 2 section, keeping a number of teams to zero goals for the game.  They made it into the Grand final but the long day appeared to take effect and they had a poor first half.  To their credit they fought back strongly in the second half but couldn't bridge the gap and went down by two.

Mick's 15U-1 finished second after the rounds in what was an strong Open section with a very strong top four teams.  They played the first final against Parkville, who they lost to by 7 during the rounds, and turned that result around to win by 4.  In the Grand final they played against Mornington and won a tight game by 2.

Stevo's 15U-2 had a mixed day to finish 5th in the Reserve 1 section.  They has some strong wins but some early losses to the lower teams cost them a place in the finals.

Andrea's 15U-3 finished the day 6th in the Reserve 2 section.  Highlights for 15U-3 were having their first win as a team for the year and beating the top team in the last round.

In summary, it was a very successful, enjoyable and long day.  All our girls performed very well and it was great start to the year.
