FitzGerald continues the Roosters dynasty
Gerard FitzGerald has had a remarkable record with the North Ballarat Roosters. Gerard first coached the Club from 1997 to 2002, where he led the team to two Grand Final appearances. After taking time out to coach elsewhere, FitzGerald returned to the Roosters in 2007 and has since guided the Senior Team to 3 Premierships in a row and into a strong finals campaign in 2011.
FitzGerald has defied sceptics and has shown that no matter his list and turnover of players, he can produce a top quality team and put forward solid performances on the field year in and year out.
2012 will be no different. Gerard FitzGerald has lost star ruckman Orren Stephenson (Geelong) and influential players Matt Sharke, Ryan McKenzie and Matt Tyler from 2011. Ben Mabon from North Melbourne will have big shoes to fill in the ruck, but it will be good for a number of players development this year having that number 1 ruck spot up for grabs.
However, he has recruited well and will no doubt continue his history of developing his entire list into a successful unit.
Coach’s Comment:
In regards to my expectations for the year, I have a certain coaching style that makes each person accountable for their own performance within the team. Coaching via this Process Outcome theory develops the individual through KPI’s which in turn develops the team as a whole. By measuring performances, we can work out why we did well or alternatively why we didn’t. I will be setting expectations for each player which should result in a desired team performance.
We have recruited well this year and are happy to have Michael Searl back on the list, playing his 100th game for the Club this weekend.
We have had a large influx of TAC Cup players sign up this year, which means our group is now made up of 69% past TAC Cup players.
Round 1 against Werribee should be a good test.
– Gerard FitzGerald
