Loss of Top 4 players doesn’t concern Scorpions
The Casey Scorpions are full steam ahead leading into Round 1 of the Peter Jackson VFL Season.
The Club has dismissed rumours that the Senior team will be significantly weakened by the loss of their leading goal kicker, two Best & Fairest winners, State Representatives and VFL Team of the Year players; Brendan Fevola, Tim Mohr, Michael Stockdale and James Wall.
They have made a strong statement to the rest of the competition by winning all three of their practice matches in the pre season against Port Melbourne, Box Hill Hawks and the Frankston Dolphins.
Casey’s young list should be well supported throughout the season by talented Rookies recruited by Melbourne as well as the appointment of a new Senior Coach, in Brett Lovett.
The Scorpions line up this weekend in Round 1 against the Williamstown Seagulls. The game will take place on Saturday evening, 6pm at Casey Fields.
Club Comment:
2012 will see the Scorps enter a transition year as we have seen 4-5 senior VFL players move on in their careers, and have appointed former Melbourne great, Brett Lovett, as coach.
With this creates an opportunity for a new group to stand up and become senior VFL players. The Melbourne Football Club have a strong 2012 list and our Casey list will be younger than from the previous year with the emphasis on developing these players for senior VFL football.
The pre season has been very vigorous and has seen the group gel well together, which has displayed some pleasing results over our practice match series.
2012 will be a season of promise for us, as we look to build on the preseason and display a new brand of football throughout the year. As always we are reliant on the Melbourne Football Club to develop their playing group, and with things going well throughout the year we expect to have a strong 2012 season and to continue our run of finals appearances over the last few years
