President's Update March 16th 2012

It has been two weeks since I penned a Weekly Update.  This has been due to the current situation where my wife Rosemary and I have sold our house and making the seachange to Point Lonsdale, a move we have contemplated for some time now. After thirty-two years of marriage it is incredible the amount of “stuff” one accumulates and with us this has been no exception.  A trip to Banyule tip, a hard garbage collection and three trips to Savers with more planned gives you some idea of the magnitude of our task.  Packing boxes and cleaning the house has taken up considerable amounts of time, not to mention the search for a rental property and negotiations with builders. I therefore apologise for my lack of communication.

Constitution

Clubs have now had the draft constitution for almost a month and as yet we have not received any responses.  This means the constitution sub-committee has done a remarkable job, club committees have not had time to fully digest the ramifications of the proposed changes or there is total apathy within the association.  I ask that if any club has a query, comment or proposed change to the draft please send them to Jo Chu at manager@edjba.com.au so that the Executive and other clubs can see them.

Mercy Rule

The Executive meets this Monday and on the agenda is the item Mercy Rule.  It was recommended at last month’s Special General Meeting that a mercy rule be instituted for the coming winter season. David Hickman and Bill Rewell will present their recommendation for approval.  Following the meeting we will advise all clubs on the new rule.

Grading Forum

The planned grading forum has been postponed until mid year, however recommendations from the clubs are now being implemented as a trial.  One of the key actions will be to have fixturing done after every second round which it is hoped will give the grading committees a more accurate picture of each team’s ability plus hopefully lessen the number of fixture changes. At the end of grading clubs will be invited to attend a meeting to assess the success of the trials conducted in the grading period.

Finals

With finals now upon us I wish every team the best of luck.

Happy Hoops
