The first game was always going to be tough task and the task up first was Coorparoo AFC for the Under14 Darling Downs Crows.
In their first ever game together as a squad, in miserable conditions at Redcliffe AFC the Crows held their own for three quarters of the game but a lazy second term, saw the Roos bounce.
Slippery conditions is what met the young Crows side up first, as both sides struggled to gain control of the game. Crows Copland, Shelton and Mengel were the stand outs in the low scoring opening term. Quarter time saw the DD Crows 0.3 (3) to Coorparoo 1.2 (8).
As the second quarter got underway, heavy rain began to fall over Redcliffe AFC and Coorparoo came into their own piling on 5 unanswered goals. The Roos went into halftime with a handy 36point lead, as the Crows could only manage the one behind for the term. Halftime scores; DD Crows 0.4 (4) to Coorparoo 6.4 (40).
The rain eased in the third term and so did the Coorparoo pressure, as the Crows started to hunt in packs but were unable to capitalise when inside their forward 50. A five minute lapse all it took and Coorparoo again pounced and slotted threw two quick goals. The Roos were able to stretch their lead out to 50points at the final change.
In the final term, the Crows started to gel as one and held possession for majority of the final quarter. Samuel Stahlhut was moved forward, to give the Crows the presence they needed around the big sticks. His presence was felt straight away, as he slotted the first ever Darling Downs Crows under 14 goal, after a strong lead and mark in very slippery conditions. The Crows midfield started to gain control and within minutes Stahlhut had another shot, which slided across the face.
In what was always going to be tough task for a side that has never played together before, the young Crows fought it out in true Crows style and the final score did not reflect the game whatsoever.
