COURAGEOUS skipper Nick Carnell will lead Coburg Tigers for the fourth consecutive year this season.
And Carnell, who took the reins from Paul Shelton in 2009, says the Victorian Football League club which will play five games in Craigieburn this year must break into the finals.
The inspirational leader at Coburg City Oval, 24, celebrated his 100th VFL game last season.
He was unveiled as captain on Wednesday night as part of a seven-man leadership group boosted by the inclusions of young gun Willie Wheeler, Rhett Jordan and boom recruit Pat Contin.
Carnell said finals were a must in coach Adam Potter's second season at the helm after a frustrating 2011 riddled with close defeats and early byes. "Bloody oath (finals) are the aim," Carnell said.
"It's not just the aim, I think it's expected we play that end of the year."
Ben Clifton was named vice-captain with Carnell anointing the star midfielder his likely successor as captain.
Carnell praised Jordan as a player to watch this year .
"He's another one who's worked from the bottom to the top and played his fair share of reserves footy, but his leadership qualities have gone through the roof. He's one of the fittest blokes and his mentoring of the younger blokes is really good," the skipper said.
Mick Tanner and Damien Rayson have also been included in the group.
