Trafalgar New Grounds Open

Saturday the 25th of February 2012 will be remembered as the day Trafalgar Victory FC came of age as a football club. For years TVFC has existed nestled away upon the back of the High School out of sight and indeed for many out of mind. At long last Trafalgar Victory has a place to call home and pitches to be proud of.

FFV board director Bart Harrold, at the official opening, stated the grounds were equal to any in Gippsland and within the top 10% of all grounds across the state. GSL representatives too commented upon the excellent condition of the pitches and the potential use of the venue for future league events.

The official opening commenced at 11:00am. Master of Ceremonies, Baw Baw Shire CEO Helen Anstis opened proceedings with a formal welcome to the county before inviting Mayor Dianne Blackwood to speak on behalf of the Baw Baw Shire.

TVFC president Mark Judd followed the Mayor and expressed thanks and appreciation to the numerous individuals and parties who had contributed to the project over several years now. He thanked the Trafalgar Victory members, both past and present, for their patience and commitment to the club.

The final official spokesman was the Member for Narracan, Mr Gary Blackwood.   Mr Blackwood acknowledged the bipartisan nature of this project and was generous in his thanks to the previous Sports Minister, Mr James Merino. He also congratulated TVFC upon their determination and commitment to this project. Following his address the official ribbon was held by junior members from the club and cut by the Mayor, the Member for Narracan and the TVFC club president. The grounds were declared open.

Those present enjoyed the free BBQ which was cooked and served by the Trafalgar Lions Club and the soft drinks were snapped up quickly as the mercury climbed well into the thirties. Plenty of pictures were taken for the local press and players of all ages, both past and present, took to the fields to be the first to play upon the newest grounds in Gippsland.

Trafalgar Victory FC wishes to thank the Baw Baw Shire and the numerous staff who have worked upon this project. As well as the Victorian State Government, especially Gary Blackwood as the local member and Michael Meyer form the Department of Planning and Community Development, Gippsland.

The club also wishes to acknowledge the support offered and contributions made by both the FFV and the GSL. TVFC thank the tenants already upon the Recreation Precinct and the Committee of Management for their ongoing support off our club.

When offering thanks to those who have assisted in this project it is important to acknowledge the significant contribution made by both the TCDA and the Trafalgar Recreation Precinct Steering Committee.  Both collectives have been outstandingly led by Mr Mick Burke, whose vision and passion for the township is second to none. Trafalgar Victory FC are extremely grateful to the members of these two organisations.

The Trafalgar Victory FC hopes this new venue will grow a love of football for many generations to come in Trafalgar and surrounding districts.
