Reporting to the Academy Manager, the primary role of the Lions Academy Coach is to assist with the preparation and coaching of the Academy squad members from around the Darling Downs region in a manner which optimises individual player performance development. This is achieved through adherence to clearly documented processes, and in line with the agreed talent strategy of the Lions Coaching framework. This exciting role has two key areas of responsibility which include:
- Academy Coaching – to build technical skills, fitness levels and capability of Academy squads and providing open and honest feedback to parents, players and club coaches in relation to performance, direction and development. This includes mentoring and educating players on their responsibilities around Club representation;
- Leadership, Culture and People – be a role model of team behavior and standards both on and off the field through provision of leadership to players and staff. This includes contributing positively to establishing and maintaining team spirit and values; and
The ideal candidate will possess leadership qualities and have strong development focus, with the desire and ability to teach and mentor teenage boys. You will be personable and be able to interact effectively and productively with people of all ages ranging from 12 years old, to parents and fellow coaches. You must be motivated to contribute to and celebrate others’ success, and be flexible and adaptable to be able to cope with changing circumstances.
Previous experience in youth or senior coaching, as well as recent experience playing, is necessary.
A minimum Level 1 AFL Coaching Accreditation is essential; Level 2 Coaching and/or Human Movement or Education degrees are favourable. You must possess sound IT knowledge, particularly of Microsoft Office suite and ideally Skill Analysis software, as well as a Blue Card.
