The match of the day in the Men’s 40’s grade between unbeaten Auckland and Kapiti Horowhenua proved to be one way traffic. Injury has ravaged the Kapiti Horowhenua squad, and they can only hope some of those players are available for the finals series in the morning.
The game was dominated by Peter Walters in attack, setting up Raymond Te Moananui for the first touchdown, and scoring one himself. Kapiti Horowhenua responded with Shane Law stepping inside a number of defenders to score an individual touchdown, which it transpired was the only scoring for his team in this game
From there the Auckland defence held solid, allowing the attacking abilities of Peter Walters to manipulate the opposition defence and set up 6 consecutive touchdowns. Peter McIntyre then took the attacking reins and utilised some deft delayed passing to put runners into short holes to score. Final score 11 – 1 to Auckland
