The likely preview of tomorrow's Over 30 Womens Final took place this morning and it was a matter of Canterbury taking the momentum from their North Harbour rivals. The Cantabrians were too strong all over the field and after gaining a 4-0 lead into halftime there was no coming back for Harbour. The teams may end up playing each-other twice tomorrow and Harbour will be out to find a chink in Canterbury's armour.
North Harbour vs Canterbury Match Report
The two fancied team in the Grade met first-up at Ongley Park this morning and Canterbury struck early with touchdowns to Stephanie Broomhall and Anita Boyd in the opening exchanges.
The game then settled into a more predictable pattern with both teams focused on yards and field position before Canterbury ended the half ahead 4 – 0 after a touchdown through Stacey Lene diving through between the North Harbour middles on the halftime siren.
The second half started well for Canterbury, pinning North Harbour on defence early in the half, and creating numbers for Stephanie Broomhall to again score inside her link defender
This was followed by a touchdown to Cathie Mulligan on her wing to have Canterbury well in control at 6 – 0
North Harbour's consolation touchdown came late in the second half when Canterbury misread the attack and North Harbour got over the line
Stephanie Broomhall ended the game with her hat trick scoring out wide for Canterbury to run out winners 7 - 1
North Harbour would be disappointed by their ball handing errors and lack of penetration on attack, where as Canterbury will be very pleased with their yardage and attack variations leading into tomorrow's finals.
