North Cairns stalwart Jo Butland believes her Tigers are primed for a finals’ charge after dismantling South Cairns on the weekend. With just two premiership rounds remaining, the Tigers look to have hit their stride after beating an under-strength Cutters side, 8.9 (57) to 1.3 (9) at Holloways Beach.
“It was our best win of the season and the best performance the girls have put in,” Butland said.
The Tigers were out for revenge from the round 10 match between the teams that ended in a draw. That marked the first time this season the Tigers were held without a win. Butland said they were determined not to let that happen again.
“We started really well, which we didn’t do last time and that helped a lot,” she said.
With the Tigers and Manunda Hawks sitting clearly on top of the four-team table, Saturday’s results have made no impact on finals positions. No matter what happens in the coming weeks, Tigers and Hawks will meet in the first week of the finals.
