The Pittsworth-Milmerran Power will officially join the AFL Darling Downs senior competition this season after receiving overwhelming interest to field a team.
The Power will play in the AFL Darling Downs Reserves competition against the second grade sides from the predominantly Toowoomba based clubs; however a team from Warwick has been touted as a possible entry.
Playing out of Bridgman Oval, the Power began in 2005 providing an opportunity for local children to play in the junior divisions; however interest from adults has grown rapidly in the last year.
Steve Dowe has been lined up as the coach for the inaugural season and is excited by the challenges coaching a new team presents. “The team will be an interesting mix of players who are new to the game and junior players new to senior footy”, he said.
The club is still looking for more players of all experience levels to get involved and help build the team up into a force to be reckoned with in 2012. Training is held on Thursday nights at Bridgman Oval, with the first round of fixtures expected to begin on March 24th.
Even if you do not wish to play, the club will require additional support from as many people as possible as they look to provide an exciting new venture for the town of Pittsworth and the whole of the Central Downs.
The club will hold a sign-on day on Saturday February 11th from 11am – 2pm at Bridgman Oval where you can meet existing club members and fellow players.
For more information on the club, or if you wish to play in 2012 get in contact with club President Bruce Smith on (07) 4693 1607.
