In a temperature of about 27 C., in Heat 2 of the M200m. this morning, Rabangaki Nawai brought weeks of preparation to fruition. He knocked 0.75 secs. off the existing record (set last December in Saipan) by running 22.81 secs. Apart from being a huge stride forwards, this also took 0.82 secs. off his PB (set in 2003 in Fiji) ! He started fast (0.179) and raced strongly, although at the back of the eight runners.
In Heat 3 we should have had Mariuti Uan, but he did not start.
In Heat 8, Toom Annaua, apparently recovered from his sore Achilles, reported for the race. The result is confusing, giving him a reaction time but no finishing time - but a PB !! - and also a DQ but with no reason for the DQ !! More news when this is clarified.
We are praying that they can field a full, fit team on Friday evening for the Heats of the 4 x 100m. Relay, with no DQ !!
