Jade Loch, Marnie McGorm, Isabella Baldock, Bridie Carter and Selina Peruntatameri have been included in the 2012 Under 18 Youth Girls Queensland squad after impressive representative campaigns in 2011.
McGorm and Peruntatameri are backing up selection after impressive showings at the National championships in 2011 for Queensland. While Loch, Baldock and Carter all impressed selectors at the Under16 AFLQ State Championship in Cairns late last year with the Southern Stars.
Out of the five, only Isabella Baldock has come through the Darling Downs club system with Goondiwindi Hawks and also Toowoomba East Stingers, matching it with the boys in the local competition. While the other four have come through the AFL Queensland school systems.
Loch, McGorm and Carter (along Baldock) were a part AFLDD school history in 2011 when their school team took out two State Titles in the one year (Jonathan Brown Cup and Youth Girls Cup). Peruntatameri has a wealth of AFL through her family, boasting both Cyril Rioli (Hawthorn) and Austin Wonaeamirri (Melbourne) a part of the family.
Also the regions development officer Jeff Neumann has also been appointed to the coaching staff for Queensland, giving the Darling Downs a total of 6, which is a great number for any Country region in a State squad.
