The carnival was made up from 10 teams consisting of the BSE, BN, BW, SC and DD regions fielding 2 teams each in a 9 a side format. This was the first time that the Darling Downs had been invited into the Future Stars program but based on their results you could have been excused for believing that they were experienced campaigners. The Garden City players won 5 of their 8 games played with team red going through the night with a perfect 4 wins from 4 games played record.
From these games played Lions Academy Manager Luke Curran was searching for players who will be invited to attend the Lions Academy Squad for 2012. Team red coach Keith Webb is hopeful to have as many as 8 players included in the Lions Academy from these games played. “I was extremely impressed with the skill level of all the Darling Downs players, especially given that these boys don’t come from a club AFL background. The talent on show was outstanding” said Webb.
Stay tuned for the naming of the ‘Academy Squad on Wednesday 16th November.
Well done to all the players who attended the carnival night and participated in this program.
