Update from the President October 28th 2011

Constitution

The sub-committee met last Tuesday to start the process of rewriting the EDJBA constitution.  It was a very productive meeting with many good ideas bandied about.  It would be premature of me to share these with you before a much firmer idea of how the constitution will look suffice to say it will reflect the wishes of the clubs.

Key points that were discussed were the need to write the constitution to allow change in the future should committees down the track see a greater or lesser role for the association.

Membership was discussed and it was agreed that the clubs must have the control through a vote of the association.

In addition it was considered paramount that clubs keep their independence within the EDJBA structure to allow other affiliations such as the VJBL

The subcommittee will meet again in a week and a half following some more detailed work by Tim Brewin and myself.  Good progress has been made.

Administrator/Manager

A subcommittee to discuss a position description for an administrator/manager of the association has met and prepared a submission including the following requirements.

Functional allocations, responsibilities, qualifications and experience, appointment terms including salary and key performance indicators.

This submission will be presented to the EDJBA executive at its next meeting for approval.

Website

James Kafkalakis, our webmaster has sent through some interesting figures re our website which I would like to share with you.

Currently we have 9632 registered members, 953 teams listed and 117 grades for the teams to play in.

These figures are records for the EDJBA and probably account for the amount of web traffic we are experiencing.  The number of people accessing our website is steadily increasing with 47,000 page requests (number of pages viewed) for the month of August when we first started the new site to an expected over 60,000 for October.

This is exceptional and no doubt will continue on an upward curve during the season.

Jim and David Bacon have done an amazing job in a short time.

News

If you have any stories regarding players, teams or officials who have done newsworthy things at your club I want to hear about them.  We need to recognize volunteers who go over and above the expected to make this association tick.  We also need to hear of players fighting adversity, and I do not mean referees.

There must be lots you can share.

Send me an email roncarlton@optusnet.com.au
