Update from the President October 21st 2011

Manager/Administrator

At the last Executive meeting held on Monday of this week a number of decisions were made that will have important ramifications for the way we do business.

One decision was to form a subcommittee to develop a position description for a manager/administrator to coordinate and run the association’s affairs on a day to day basis.  This would give the association a focus through which all of the association’s business can be channelled through the new office and where one person can oversee all the tasks now undertaken by a number of people.

Treasurer John Matthews is convening the subcommittee comprising Vice President John Morkham, Jenni James and myself. This subcommittee will make recommendations to the Executive at their next meeting.

This would be a big step forward in making the association a much more professional organisation.

Computers

This week John Matthews and Jim Kafkalakis have been liaising with Alison Romas and Sue Scott with a view to purchasing computers for installation in the office at TLC.

Computers will be installed in the next week thus equipping our office to allow for efficient operation out of a central hub. It is an exciting time at the EDJBA as we make our operation more professional.

Constitution

The convening of this subcommittee has been harder than winning Tattslotto but finally we will have a meeting next Tuesday.  Once the subcommittee has been able to determine the changes to be made and presented these to the main committee the draft constitution will be presented to clubs for consideration.  This will be a difficult but in the end rewarding process.

Grading Forum

The Executive decided at Monday’s meeting to hold a grading forum early in the New Year.  This follows a number of well thought out submissions by people who had obviously given a lot of thought to some problems encountered in the grading process.  As David Hickman said, “we have a brilliant system that is not perfect”.

In all likelihood David Bacon will convene this forum which anyone with an interest in grading will be welcome to attend.

It was decided to run with the current system for the summer season at the same time bearing in mind the suggestions people have made.  It was decided by the Executive that rather than inflict further change on officials, coaches, clubs and players, while we change so much else, it was better to keep grading as is and address the issues raised in readiness for the winter season.

FIBA Iphone App

Gavin Smith wrote to me regarding the website and its new look.  He coaches an under 10 team at Eltham and is often looking at the website for fixtures, ladders and results.

He states that he “dug into” the new myFIBA features and discovered that he can have an Iphone app that links in really well.

He goes on to say that “Having this level of info for an Under 10 team is amazing and great use of the power of the internet and your teams drive as well.”

As a technological idiot I decided to investigate further and Jenni James was able to provide me the following information.

MyFiba is an Iphone Application that works in conjunction with the myFIBA page.

If you go onto the fixtures/results website of the EDJBA https://websites.mygameday.app/comp_info.cgi?a=FIXTURE&compID=194472&c=1-4593-0-0-0 you will see a yellow highlighted section. Click to add to myFIBA. From there it will ask you which club you support. This is the link to the Iphone App.  http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/mysport-scoreboard/id367514943?mt=8 where you will need to download the application and open a MySport account.

Once you have set everything up the app will then give you all the information that Gavin has been able to access such as the above.

If you are not sure how to do this get any child under the age of fourteen to assist you.  Well that’s my way of dealing with the new technological challenges.

This is one of the new advantages that come with the change to Sporting Pulse.

Happy Hoops
