Update from the President October 14th 2011

Constitution

A working party has been formed to develop a new constitution for the EDJBA.  Clubs made it clear in voting in a new committee that an update of the present constitution be undertaken with a view that the member clubs have control of the association and its activities.

Tim Brewin, Craig Pattison, John Morkham, Kim White, Greg Jeffers, David Hickman, Richard Cookes and myself are scheduled to meet at Eltham next Wednesday to have preliminary discussions with a view to setting a framework in which to work.  Greg and David have tryout duties at Eltham on the same night and will endeavour to drop in when it is convenient to assist.

It is the intention that this working committee has a draft constitution in place for clubs to consider at a Special General Meeting to be held next February.  At some stage in the process legal advice will be sought from Basketball Victoria to put the draft into a workable form. As you would no doubt be aware constitutional debate can be difficult and at times tedious but the subcommittee has as its best intention that clubs will have something meaningful to debate in February.

Finances/Budget

John Matthews has been working extremely hard at developing a clear picture of the real financial state of the association.  I am pleased to report the association is financially healthy and now he is in a position to work on developing a budget which will also be presented at the Special General meeting in February.

It is pleasing that John has taken on the role of Treasurer because he is a highly respected basketball official that has been used by Basketball Victoria in the past to resolve difficult managerial and financial issues within basketball in Victoria.

I can assure you the books are in very good hands and his budget will be a responsible one that has a vision for the future.

Condolences

While on the subject of John the association sends its condolences to him on the news that his mother in law passed away recently.  The committee sent flowers on behalf of the association to John and his wife.  Our sympathies are with him and Barbara at this difficult time.

Happy hoops,

Ron Carlton

President.
