Update from the President October 7th 2011

Fixturing

The year flies by and Christmas is fast approaching.  Despite the lull in competition the hard working Fixture Officers, Alison and Sue have been beavering away to get the first three rounds of the grading season in place.

The work is monumental and to give you an idea there have been 1398 games fixtured for these two rounds with 938 teams involved. When last I wrote we had 926 teams entered but this has grown to 938 meaning that there has been an overall increase of 103 teams for the summer season as against last summer season’s entry.

Sue advises me that the entry may be even higher as we get into the competition proper.  She also reported that the small fixtures day was a success.  However the task of checking all the games has been difficult due to the sheer size of the competition.

Our thanks go to everyone who assisted on the day.  It would be remiss of me not to mention David Bacon who has assisted with the rotations and getting the typed fixtures into venue plans along with the myriad other tasks David takes upon himself to make the transition into the Sporting Pulse program as smooth as possible.

Grading

Our thanks go to Andrew Harris and David Bacon who have agreed to chair the girls and boys grading committees respectively.  Andrew wrote to me asking if he could assist and we are pleased he has agreed to this.  Thanks Andrew.  To David once again our thanks, your willingness is exceptional and your work will stand us in good stead for the future.

Womens National Basketball League (WNBL)

The WNBL kicks off for the Bulleen Boomers this Saturday at 1pm and if you have girls who would like to be inspired by the world’s best female basketballers get along to the Veneto Club and see the likes of Liz Cambage, number two choice in the WNBA draft, in action.

Locally trained players, Lauren Pearce (Bulleen) and Alice Kunek (Eltham) are in the Boomers squad proving that the EDJBA has the ability to give girls the chance to go all the way to the top in their local area.

Should you wish to make group bookings for your team to attend or even enquire about them playing in a half time game contact Robyn Maher WNBL Convenor for the Boomers WNBL program.  Eltham have taken advantage of this in the past and teams from Whitehorse have come along as a group.  The games not only showcase the best female basketball talent in Australia but also they are a great way to inspire juniors in a fun atmosphere.  Robyn’s email address is finance@bulleenboomers.com.au

To check out the Bulleen schedule for the summer season go to www.bulleenboomers.com.au then click on Championship on the menu bar and then click on WNBL.  An address will come up.  Click on this to take you to the Boomers WNBL page.  The full fixture will be there for your information.  All home games are at Veneto Club in Bulleen Road.

Under 14 National Girls Club Championship

Eltham Wildcats play the Bulleen Boomers tonight in the semi-final of the Under 14 National club Championship.  Both teams have done well winning all their games to get to the semi-final and our best wishes go the teams.

Alison Romas has been given leave of absence to attend the Championships.  Something about her daughter playing for Bulleen and she wanted to be there.

Once again clubs who are members of the EDJBA are featuring on the national basketball scene.

Happy Hoops

President.
