While footy season might be over for most, September is when female footy starts to fire up and gets serious. Ten girls from across the Darling Downs have been selected in a squad of twenty-two.
Hayley Torresan (Pittsworth), Danielle Wall (Dalby), Savannah Ranford (Coolaroo) and Isabella Baldock (Easts) all from local clubs will join Jane Krautz, Bridie Carter, Grace Krautz, Molly O'Connell, Jess Harvey and Jade Loch all from local secondary schools in the 2011 Southern Stars Representative Squad. Tasha Grundon (Highfields) has also been selected but only as an emergency.
The Southern Stars squad is made up of girls from three AFL regions Gold Coast, Northern Rivers and Darling Downs. The Gold Coast had 11 girls selected while the Northern Rivers were able to get 2 girls through to the final squad.
The STARS fly out on November 3rd to contest the 2011 AFL Queensland Youth Girls State Championships in Cairns, far north Queensland.
Also representing the region in the squad is the regions Development Officer Jeff Neumann as Head Coach, while Marnie McGorm will also join the coaching staff as a Assistant Coach.
