Level O Coaching Course

Tom Maher, Director of Coaching at Bulleen is running a Level 0 Coaching Course on Sunday 2nd of October. This is a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals of coaching from one of the best coaches in the world.

Tom Maher is considered one of the leading coaches in the world and at present, apart from his role as Director of Coaching at Bulleen, is also the Bulleen Boomers WNBL head coach and coach of the Great Britain team for the London Olympics.

The clinic starts at 10am and runs for 2 hours.  The cost to EDJBA members is $10. You need to wear basketball attire, bring a ball and bottle of water as this is an on court session. Please contact the Bulleen office on 9850 6222 for details and registration.

Grand Finals

Congratulations and best wishes to all the teams who are competing this Saturday.  The culmination of the season comes to a close and there will be tears of joy and sorrow no doubt.

With twelve venues being used it has proven to be a logistical exercise in patience and control for all concerned in the scheduling of them.

The EDJBA office was a hive of activity as Sue and Alison prepared folders, organized perpetual trophies and sorted medallions.

Basketball Booming in the EDJBA

Entries have been coming in for the coming summer season and it looks like being a record.  To date 922 teams have entered from all clubs but it is anticipated this number will grow.

Collingwood have reported an extra 100 boys will suit up in the black and white while Bulleen’s team numbers grow from 143 to 163. Nunawading has seen a steady increase in teams over the past three seasons and during summer will field 91.  Eltham have topped the list with 180.

Balwyn continue to show large numbers and 90 teams is a reflection of the excellent program they conduct.

Naturally with this growth comes difficulties with courts and their availability or lack of them.

One of the areas that the EDJBA could be of assistance is a role of support for submissions to local Councils or negotiation with venue managers.  This aspect of the association’s role will be discussed further in the coming months.

Executive Meeting – Monday Night

Next Monday the Executive is meeting to discuss a number of the issues.

Among these include the constitution, budgets, Sporting Pulse, grading, logo development and IT equipment and its use.

I will have more to report on in the next update but rest assured the committee has not been standing still and the next few months will be a hectic one for its members.

Happy hoops,

Ron Carlton

President
