The supremely strong Mount Waverley Mountain Lions will tomorrow endeavour to secure that elusive premiership that the club has worked so tirelessly to achieve.
Mount Waverley has been a powerhouse of the Division 3 competition for four seasons without managing to capture the ultimate prize, but tomorrow looms as the club's best chance to take hold of the cup and lay the demons of past seasons to rest.
To do so, they will have to overcome the all-conquering Southern Dragons. The Dragons limped into the finals this year in fourth place, before firing their very clear and resounding warning shot to the rest of the competition with a first week thumping of the Doveton Eagles. Growing in strength and confidence, the club has improved each week and tomorrow finds itself in its very first Grand Final of the club's short history.
Mount Waverley on the other hand goes into the Grand Final following a season where they were rarely headed - indeed, the side only lost two matches for the entire season, both of which incidentally to the Southern Dragons.
The Dragons, arguably the most multicultural football club in all of Australia, play a run-and-carry style of football, moving the ball quickly over the Jack Barker Oval, whilst the Mountain Lions are lead by strong, willing players, many of whom have admirably ignored attractive offers from other clubs to stay at Mount Waverley in the pursuit of that premiership flag.
