Trevor Burnett and Jon Vlatko were recognised for excellent seasons with their respective clubs by being named Coach and Captain of the 2011 AFL Sydney Team of the Year.
Burnett was recognised for his work with the Illawarra Lions as they finished on the verge of the finals- the best year for the club in the Premier Division competition.
31 year-old Vlatko again enjoyed a strong season with the East Coast Eagles which included selection in the AFL Sydney Representative side which travelled north to play AFL Cairns.
The team was announced at the Phelan Medal Presentation evening held at Doltone House.
There was an even representation from clubs in the AFL Sydney Team of the Year with ten of the eleven clubs having a representative in the side.
East Coast Eagles had the highest number of representatives, with five, followed by North Shore with four players in the twenty-two man squad.
Anton Lewis was awarded the Umpire of the Year.
The Team of the Year was selected by the AFL Sydney Premier Division Coaches, and Football Operations Manager, Garry Burkinshaw based on the following criteria:
