University Cougars have advanced to the 2011 AFL Darling Downs Juniors under 16 Grand-Final after coming from behind to beat the South Toowoomba Bombers at Rockville Oval.
Tasman Myles booted the first two goals of the game on Saturday as University struggled to find their feet early in the game. Souths were led all day by inspirational skipper Tom Wainwright who racked up 30plus possessions for the Bombers but it was his in and under work that stood tall the most.
Bombers were able to stretch the lead out to 26points going into the major break and just need to continue their good game plan to book their place in the Grand-Final against the Swans.
Whatever the University coach Shane Melrose said to his boys at halftime, he will want to keep it close and save some of it for this weekend. After the long break University kicked 5 goals to the Bombers 2 behinds to take the lead by 4points into the last quarter.
It was game on, as both sides went coast to coast throughout the see-sawing final term. With only minutes left on the clock Souths were up by 2points, but it was not to be as the Cougars were able to stretch the margin out to 7 as Edward Tong booted his third for the day and secured the 13point margin and book their place against the Dalby Swans in next week’s under16 AFLDDJ Grand-Final.
