TOOWOOMBA Tigers showed there is plenty of fight left in their 2011 premiership defence with a come-from-behind 9.16 (70) to 10.7 (67) win over a desperate University outfit yesterday.
Going into this match, Tigers coach Andrew Farr promised one of the matches of the season and Saturday's preliminary final at Rockville Park didn't disappoint. While the Cougars set the pace early, Tigers methodically clawed their way back into the match after trailing for the majority of the first half.
After trailing by nine points at the main break, the second half belonged to Tigers who struggled for accuracy in front of goal but did enough to see off the in-form Cougars.
Tigers coach Andrew Farr was full of praise for players from both sides. “That was the greatest game I've been involved with on the Downs and the two sides never gave up the whole day,” Farr said. But Farr was quick to single out Steve Young who flew up from Sydney to play for the Tigers after missing last weekend's major semi-final loss to Warwick. “Dan Farr, Luke Adams and Michael Rae the week before were guys that underperformed but yesterday all those boys stood up as well. What a fantastic turnaround,” Farr said.
And Farr was quick to start the mind games with Warwick, only five days out from the final. “How many times have these young Warwick guys played the grand final in their head? Now all of a sudden it's here and they have to play the reigning premiers of 2010 in 2011.” (story from the chronicle 5/9/11)
