Port Melbourne versus Casey Scorpions kick off the Acacia VFL finals on Saturday.
Port Melbourne has been the powerhouse of the VFL competition this season snatching the minor premiership and venturing through undefeated for the first time in the clubs history.
Yet they are the only side in the top eight to not be affiliated with an AFL club.
The Borough will be hoping to win their 16th premiership – their first since 1982 - but they need to halt Casey Scorpions success this week in the first round of the Acacia VFL finals.
Although it’s not an Elimination Final, the Scorpions are a real threat to the Borough with potential inclusions such as Matthew Warnock, Robbie Campbell and Austin Wonaemirri.
Then there are the second-half of the season surprise packet Brendan Fevola.
The ex-Carlton and Brisbane power forward had a slow start to the season and sporting a larger build than his AFL playing days, many thought his best football was behind him.
Yet the 30-year old has kicked a total of 43 goals in just six weeks, including 10 against the Northern Bullants last week, contributing to a 100-point triumph.
His string of success in recent weeks placed him second behind Port Melbourne’s Patrick Rose (67 goals) in the Jim ‘Frosty’ Miller medal race kicking 63 goals for the home and away season.
The Borough will have to rectify their ‘slow start’ plague whilst the Scorpions will need to get off to a good start and hold on for the inevitable Borough fight back.
The first Qualifying Final between the Borough and the Scorpions will be held at TEAC Oval with the game starting at 2:10pm this Saturday.
