South Toowoomba have bounced back to their winning ways after defeating the Highfields Lions by 48points at Harristown Park in the under 14 Elimination Final.
Bombers kept the Lions in the game, with their woeful kicking in front of the big sticks kicking 2.8 in the opening term in nearly perfect footballing conditions. Highfields also continued the trend, kicking 2behinds themselves in the opening quarter.
Souths were dealt a major blow in the second term when Co-Captain Will Krause was injured in a contest and was reduced to duties in the goal square. Jacob Verrall was the stand-out in the second quarter with his classy in and under work, feeding the footy out to his fellow midfielders. Goslan and Harper were the stand-outs for the young Lions, as the Bombers ran rampant in the second term and taking a 34 point lead into the major break.
The third quarter was a shoot out between both sides, as each team lifted in intensity right across the paddock. Krause for Souths chipped in with 2 goals while Sheath and Carroll kicked the Lions first majors of the day. Sam Flannery stood tall in the third quarter with his competitive nature and hard running standing above all the rest as the Bombers stretched their lead going into the final term.
Goals to Davies and Harber gave hope of a Lions comeback but 3 more goals to the Bombers put the result out of the reach of Highfields, as the Bombers ran out victors 10.17 (77) to 4.5 (29)
