THREE-time premiership player Billy Driscoll is back in town and eyeing up another Victorian Football League finals campaign.
Driscoll flew into Melbourne from London, via Singapore, early yesterday morning and, after a short nap, was back having a kick at North Ballarat Roosters’ headquarters.
The handy goal-kicking small forward is pencilled in to make his come-back from a seven-week hiatus overseas this week via the Selkirk Roosters’ reserves.
Driscoll must first pass fitness testing before he is cleared to play against Sandringham at Eureka Stadium on Sunday. The 24-year-old met with the Roosters’ strength and conditioning team yesterday to form a personalised running and swimming program.
He started training with the playing squad last night and must also complete team training tomorrow and Friday nights.
North Ballarat coach Gerard FitzGerald was impressed with Driscoll’s dedication and enthusiasm.
“It’s why we were always keen to have him home – Billy’s such a well-respected player and it did show a lot about his commitment to the team to have him come straight back to the club,” FitzGerald said.
“He’s come back feeling good, his skin-folds are good, we’re happy with the shape he’s in. What we need to do is manage effectively and carefully in getting him back to playing well but we’ve only got a short time-frame.
“...If we can get him right, we’ll see how we go.”
The Roosters have two matches before VFL finals.
