St Ursula's College have continued their Darling Downs AFL schools games winning streak to 25 straight wins after Tuesdays Youth Girls Cup open competition at Rockville Oval.
The defending champions St Ursula's College started their 2011 campaign with a first up big win over Downlands College number 2 side with an emphatic 11.12 (78) to 0. Kirsty Cameron was the stand-out for the 2010 State Finalists, as were new recruits Nekeesha Hansen and Isabella Baldock. Downlands had no answers to the well drilled SUC outfit.
Next up Downlands College number 1 side were to face the St Ursula's number 2 side. Jess Brown of Downlands led the way through the midfield for DC and SUC just couldn't match it with their highly fancied opponents. Downlands 1 ran out 3.7 (25) to 0.2 (2) victors.
The third game of the day saw the battle of the number 2 sides with Downlands College coming up against St Ursula's College. Both teams struggled to break through each sides defensive pressure and this was evident on the scoreboard with St Ursula's College getting the points 0.4 (4) def. 0.2 (2). Veronica Williams and Jacinta Brennan were outstanding for Downlands but it was the trio of Jess Brown, Jade Loch and Tahlia Malone-Roma who stood tall in the tight struggle.
The final game of the day, if Downlands College 1 could defeat St Ursula's College 1, they would progress to the State Semi Finals in Brisbane. Though the script didn't go their way with St Ursula's dominating all over the paddock and recording a 9.12 (66) to 0.0 (0) victory. Selina Peruntatameri and Shelley Holoson were the stand outs for Downlands in the loss. Tiah Barham, Kailah Rogers and Madie Moloney played fantastic games for SUC 1.
St Ursula's College will now advance down to Brisbane to contest the State Semi Finals at Logan AFC on Thursday 18th August. We wish them all the best and stay tuned for the results.
