Crow's Nest State School have taken out their first ever AFL competition by defeating Concordia college in both of their games.
Concordia were the standout favourites to take the competition, largely due to the schools enrolement numbers compared to the Prep to year 10 school of Crow's Nest. Concordia kicked the first goal of the game and from their it was one way traffic. The Crowy's were able to swing the momentum their way through Phoebe Bridges and Tieraney Motley who played fantastic carnivals through the midfield.
With games modified to 2x12minute halves, games were of a high intensity and played at extreme pace. Crow's Nest were able to take the lead at halftime up 2.1 (13) to Concordia's 1.0 (6). Again Concordia came out firing but this time spraying a set shot on goal and only recording a point. Phoebe Bridges kicked her third goal of the game late in the second half to secure the first game win.
Crow's Nest ran out 3.2 (20) to 1.1 (7) victors, with one game to go. Phoebe Bridges earning best on ground honours just in front of Concordia's Courtney Lane.
The second game Concordia had to win and also break down the margin of the first game, meaning if Concordia were to take out this years competition would need to win this game by 14points. This wasn't to be as Crow's Nest went on a scoring frenzy but kept Concordia in the game with their inaccuracy in front of goal. The halftime score was Crow's Nest 1.5 (11) to Concordia 0.0 (0).
Reanne McGreevy was fantastic in the first half and continued who centre clearance work in the second term. Phoebe Bridges the goal scoring machine added two more goals to put Concordia on the back foot and shut out any chance of them winning this years competition. The final score Crow's Nest 3.8 (26) to Concordia's 0.0 (0).
Crow's Nest now continue onto the State Semi Finals in Brisbane on the 18th August, we wish them all the best and stay tuned for how they go.
Crow's Nests Phoebe Bridges took out the Junior divisions MVP for the carnival.
