MAITLAND MUSTANGS 2011 CJL GRAND FINALS
The 2011 CJL Grand finals saw 7 out of 13 Mustang Junior Representative Basketball teams compete for the top prize. This was up on the Associations 2010 effort where 5 of 14 teams made the grand finals.
The Division 1 teams competing were: under 18 Women, under 16 women, under 14 women, under 14 men and under 12 men. The division 2 teams included under 16 Men and under 14 Women. The under 14 Men 1 and under 16 Men 2 won their Grand Finals. Other results were mixed with the 14 Women 2 (losing by 1 point) and 12 Men 1 lost by 13 points after rebounding from a 33 point loss a week ago. Overall the results were promising. Injuries played a part in the destiny of the under 18 women who had a stellar regular season finishing with an 11-1 win/loss record. It is notable that for the Mustangs, the under 12 Men 1 regular season finished with an 11-1 win/loss record and made the Associations first 12 Men 1 appearance in the CJL grand finals since 1999. For this, thanks must go to the Newcastle and Hunter Youth Development Trust and their sponsors for its support of the Maitland Basketball Association’s "Future Stars" program and other junior development programs.
