On Saturday July 30, Preston City Oval will be overtaken by all the colours of the rainbow when the Northern Bullants and Coburg Tigers throw their full support behind Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation in their round 18 Peter Jackson VFL clash.
Televised live on the ABC, both clubs will be wearing Zaidee’s Rainbow Shoelaces in both the main game and reserves.
In addition to all teams wearing the Rainbow Laces, the Zaidee’s logo will be painted on the surface of the ground and the 50 metre lines will be painted using all the colours of the rainbow!
The goal umpires will also be getting into the spirit of the day and will be using specially designed Zaidee’s goal umpire flags.
Zaidee’s Events and Communications Manager Jarred Carey is looking forward to this weekend’s game, with the clubs involved throwing their full support behind the foundation.
“We’re overwhelmed by the level of support we’ve received for the day from not only the Northern Bullants and Coburg, but also from AFL Victoria and the ABC,” Carey said.
“The rainbow 50 metre lines are something we’re particularly excited about and we’re hoping that this point of difference will help us to inspire discussion of organ and tissue donation”
The Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation was founded by Kim and Allan Turner, in memory of their daughter Zaidee Rose Alexander Turner , who aged 7 years and 22 days died suddenly on 2nd December 2004 from a burst blood vessel in her brain called a Cerebral Aneurism.
At the time of Zaidee’s death the Turner family had been registered Organ and Tissue Donors for 5 years. As a result, Zaidee donated her organs and tissues at the Royal Children’s Hospital, as were her wishes at the time. From this gift, the lives of 7 people (6 children and 1 adult) were improved and, in some cases, saved.
Zaidee’s story is directed towards both children and adults so they can think about others who are waiting for a life saving operation and a suitable match for an organ or tissue. The Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation help people think about giving this gift to others so they can live a better life and in some cases, have a second chance at life.
