Marnie McGorm and Kailah Rogers were the stand outs for the Girls Crows in the their loss to the Carrara Saints at Rockville Oval on Sunday morning.
Carrara recorded a 3.7 (25) to 3.4 (22) victory in front of a large Crows crowd at Rockville. The Saints marched to a 77point win back in round 3 but this time had their work cut out for them. The game was reduced to 10-a-side and Carrara continued to rotate their players through the bench and worked the Crows over time, as cramping and fatigue set in at the 3 quarter time break.
But in true country spirit the Crows wanted to finish the year off on a high and take out their maiden win. Although they didn't get across the line, they recieved a wave of cheers as the Crows left the ground with their heads up high and finished off in style.
The girls Crows might have finished the season in last but finished the year off with a warning that girls footy is on the rise on the Darling Downs.
"The way the girls played and fought it out was a credit to themselves. The girls have only ever had 1 training session due to work, school and other sporting commitments but showed that they can run side by side with the best Youth Girls teams in South East Queensland", Girls coach Jeff Neumann proudly explained.
"I would just like to thank all 19 girls that were involved in the girls Crows program in 2011 and hope that everyone of them enjoyed the experience of playing AFL and hope that do so, into the future. Thank you so much, I am very proud of all the girls who played despite results not always going our way," Neumann emotionally said at the wrap up after the game.
